Manor of Hope believes that frequent physical activity is a very important aspect of recovery for all of our residents. Therefore we engage in physical activity in many forms. Our residents attend the gym almost daily, participate in sports such as softball and basketball, practice yoga and participate in a number of outdoor activities.
Because of the gorgeous weather this past weekend, the guys spent plenty of time outside.
On Saturday, a group of guys headed down to the Schuykill canal in Phoenixville and took a nice long kayak trip. The trio started at the historic Fitzwatwer Station. The guys paddled down the canal towards the lock. The weather was perfect, and there was plenty of nature in sight. Geese, ducks, and turtles were all over the canal.
Dave was even able to grab a little turtle for a brief moment before placing it back where he found it.
Once we got to the lock, we carried our kayaks across the lot and into the river. This was the more relaxing part of the trip, since you don’t have to paddle much and you can just enjoy the ride.
James was playing music from his blue-tooth speaker, which made the nice trip even better!
About 45 minutes into the river we reached our portage point. We paddled to the shore, and carried our kayaks back to the canal and paddled a little more to head back to the starting point at the Fitzwatwater.
We ended the evening back at the manor sitting by the fore pit and playing football.
Sunday morning was another gorgeous morning, so the guys packed up the bikes and headed to the Betzwood section of Valley Forge park for a bike ride. They rode for a bit down the river trail and then entered the woods.
The air was nice and cool, making the ride very comfortable. The guys navigated the terrain gracefully, tackling the short hills, dips, rocks and log jumps with ease. Every now and then the guys stopped and regrouped, ensuring that everyone was accounted for.
After riding the trails in the woods until the end, the guys chose to have a more leisurely ride on the way back on the wide and smooth river trail.
It was another great weekend at the Manor of Hope!
