Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment, which one can develop through the practice of meditation and through other training. – Wikipedia
As the Manor of Hope community takes on its intentions for 2019, mindfulness will be incorporated throughout the work that it does.
The benefits of mindfulness on our mental and spiritual health are well documented. Mindfulness’s rightful place in the recovery process is also well known, and is being used throughout the world to help those suffering from addiction.
Efforts around mindfulness at the Manor take many forms.
Guided meditations are offered to the group as well as multiple yoga classes throughout the week with our partners at the YMCA and Grace and Glory Yoga. We also travelled recently to the Philadelphia Art Museum to take in their Eastern Art collection. Some of our community members have also decided to supplement their 12-step meetings with Refuge Recovery meetings and also events at both the Center for Families and the Brightening Center in Malvern.
These gatherings allow for building a larger sober network while adding new coping strategies to our recovery plans.
We will look forward to building on these efforts through our own house discussions, writing reflections, daily habits, retreats and excursions related to the spiritual practice of mindfulness.
