“When I went through the whole process at Bryn Mawr Rehab, and the hospital and stuff, I relied heavily on my past experience of going through my addiction and getting over that. That was the toughest thing I ever had to go through.”

Bill McGlone, is a professional Lacrosse player from Ridley, PA. He has overcome two major obstacles in his life…

Bill, was an all-star lacrosse player at Ridley High School and was eventually recruited to play on the Philadelphia Wings Major Lacrosse League. In 2014, he was diagnosed with Neurosarcoidosis, a rare condition causing inflammation of the Brain. After surgeons removed a large mass on his left frontal lobe, he was left paralyzed on his entire right side.

Today he has almost fully recovered his movement and is able to walk and function almost as well as he did before the surgery.

But amazingly, he says recovering from brain surgery was not as difficult as overcoming his dependency to pain medication prescriptions. He became addicted to opioids from prescriptions for his injuries. Finding opioid addiction treatment in PA, he successfully recovered. He called his addiction the hardest obstacle he’s ever had to overcome.

We all know that physical pain from injuries can be unbearable but the benefits do not outweigh the risks when dealing with opioid addiction. Pain meds should be carefully considered in any treatment.
